MEET JEREMY

Adopted by a single mom from an orphanage in Kolkata, India, Jeremy made history as the first Asian-American elected to state office from Upstate New York. He was raised in the City of Rochester, where he graduated from public schools. He is the first and only RCSD graduate in the State Senate in decades. Jeremy went on to earn his B.A. with honors from Hobart & William Smith Colleges and his J.D. from Albany Law School. He is married to Dr. Diane Lu, a surgeon with the University of Rochester Medical Center. Together they reside in the City of Rochester.

Jeremy was elected to the Senate in 2020, representing the 56th District. Since taking office, he has had a record of delivering results for Monroe County families. He secured tax cuts for middle class New Yorkers, delivered record investments for schools, and in 2022 he authored the New York CHIPS Act, creating an economic development program that led to Micron and other semiconductor companies bringing thousands of jobs to communities across Upstate. In 2024, Jeremy was named Chairman of the Transportation Committee, pledging renewed investment in roads and bridges, expanding access to public transit, and a vision for finally achieving high speed rail in New York.

Jeremy is active in our community as a member of his neighborhood association and the Monroe County Democratic Committee. He also sits on the Board of Trustees for Hobart & William Smith Colleges, the Vestry of Christ Church Rochester, and serves as a Vice Chair of the Executive Board for the Seneca Waterways Council, BSA, as a proud Eagle Scout. Jeremy is married to Dr. Diane Lu, a surgeon with the University of Rochester Medical Center. Together they reside in the City of Rochester.

ISSUES

Affordability and Taxes

I voted in favor of accelerated middle-class tax cuts that will save families $162 million in 2023, and $615 million in 2024. I also supported a property tax rebate with an average credit of $873 for more than 140,000 taxpayers in Monroe county.
For too long hard-working, middle class New Yorkers have had to shoulder an undue tax burden in New York State. I will continue to take steps to remedy this and stand up for middle-class families in Albany.
Affordable Healthcare

Every New Yorker should have access to affordable, comprehensive healthcare. We need to get more people covered and reduce healthcare costs for the hard-working families across our state. I’ve worked to cap the cost of insulin, lower prescription drug prices, and ensure paid leave for those battling illness.
Women's Rights

Since the Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade decision, women’s rights are being targeted across the country. Here in New York, I will make sure our state protects and welcomes all women seeking the freedom to make informed healthcare decisions about their own bodies. I proudly voted for the New York State Equal Rights Amendment, guaranteeing a woman’s right to choose in the New York State Constitution and I will proudly campaign for it as a ballot measure in 2024.
Public Safety and Gun Violence

We can’t leave any stone unturned when it comes to fighting crime. I am committed to supporting law enforcement, while taking a holistic approach to address the root causes of crime - lack of economic opportunity and access to support services, decades of systemic racism and declining public schools. I’m committed to working in partnership with law enforcement agencies to prevent and respond to incidents of gun violence, while balancing the rights of legal and responsible gun owners. I voted in support of legislation that strengthened Red Flag laws, that raised the age to purchase semi-automatic weapons, and to prohibit the sale of ghost guns.
I was honored to be designated a “Gun Sense Candidate” by Moms Demand Action in 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024.
